Introduction Thread
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:59:06 PM »

We seem to have a large crop of new users coming in and several older members returning.  I thought it might be nice to have a thread for some introductions.

I'm TheDoctor, one of the forum administrators.  I've been helping sntjohnny run this site since it was "born."  I've mainly been involved with the technical side of things but I "delurk" from time to time to post in a thread that really interests me.

I've always been interested in science.  Actually, I used to be a high school physics teacher, but now I'm the technology coordinator for a school system.

sntjohnny got me interested in doing online apologetics back in the "Defending the Faith" days many years ago (read, I don't remember how long ago).  I've met a lot of people on the various forums and I'm hoping to get to know even more.

Anyway, welcome to all of our users new and old!  This would be an awfully boring site without you!

Man, I am so glad to be back!   Well, I was on the DTF website, too.  I debated a lot with tonyn and rblpriest... and others.

I am an interpreter for a deaf girl.  I have always had a love for the Deaf.  I also enjoy working with autistic kids.  They fascinate me.

I have 2 children who are 9 and 7 1/2.  I should have named them "Night" and "Day" because they are that different.  My son (9) likes anything that can fly.  He wants to be a missionary when he grows up.  My daughter (7 1/2) likes drawing and "teaching".  She loves to sing.  We live with my mom.  Moving back home after being married was and still is an experience.

Um.... that's about it.

Well, I came upon this site by just searching... accidental sortof....

This site is the very first site I joined where it came to expression of faith.  And I found out that this site gives way tooooo much allowances.... but that is why I am still a member here.  Oh, after discovering this forum and joining, I decided to join a couple more and since then have been banned.  Perhaps it has to do with my silly thoughts that God might be be powerful enough, and willing enough to save all his creation which HE is responsible for???

TonyN...haha... I disagree with some of his perspectives too.. but we must all chew the meat and spit out the bones.. and save the baby from the bath water.

Anways, nothing about me has changed since I first joined... I'm older now... sntj came very close to actually guessing my age... and I still drink beer... and still don't care what people think about me.

I'm still mainly here to be corrected...LOL

I suppose I should jump in here, too.

Now, come on now Zag.  I don't let porn and profanity slide.  I know what you're talking about the whole banning thing, though.  I jumped on at another Christian forum over the summer and I had a moderator on me the first day.  Yeesh.  I shoulda invited the guy I was arguing with over here, cuz he got reemed, too.

Oh, and I drink beer, too.  And I don't care what people think.  :)

Anyway, my story is that I am currently a stay at home dad trying to make a go at some free lance writing and of course writing novels, etc.  But when I was in college I abandoned Christianity and everything else and rebuilt and discovered, to my own surprise, that Christianity was solid.  Over the years I've taught junior high, high school, and some college.  I did some Internet debating on what I still think was the very first atheistic debate forum (now defunct and gone even from google) and was spammed (successfully) by DTF.  DTF went belly up, I set up shop here and invited all of my homeys, a good number of whom still remain.

Some of these folks I've known for a good ten years.

Sntj.  I remember that one time we both couldn't sleep one nite.

I think this site rocks... and still does.  Just to note, I was booted from the people of my own green!!!  They got just so unrealistic for me that I spoke up and got myself an inprint upon my buttocks.  Kinda the way I disagree with TN from time to time... but with much more exuberance!!

Hey, gotta tell ya.. my wife just had her first childrens novel printed!!!  Privately to start with, but we both have great hopes that this will be succesful with the bigger marketing companies in the (far) future.  There are already a number of people wanting a copy even before it came out... and more wanted it when they saw the rough draft!!

Anyways, just to respond to what you wrote, I mentioned your book to a marketer (sp?) here.. someone I meet every sunday....just to talk about spiritual things and such.. and we disagree... he is more like you..lol.  Anways, perhaps we both can get your book noticed in these parts of the country???  And perhaps we both might work together to get you here in body to do some debates/training/whatever sort of thing????  He is a persuer and will contact the persons/churchs to find out if this could be done.

K... went way off topic now...bye bye, sing a lullabye!!!  :)

"Sntj.  I remember that one time we both couldn't sleep one nite. "

You really can't let that hang there like that.  What are people going to think?

I would be totally down with getting known in 'your parts.'  There are many avenues.  Talking about Fidelis can happen in a secular setting as well as a church one.  I like the idea of training because all my experience shows me that we need to equip folks earlier rather than later, but some might be at a loss as to how to do that.  Maybe some kind of a tour so I can hit up a bunch of churches?  or a big event where lots of churches come?  Let me know.  Perhaps in private message so we don't derail this pleasant thread.  :)

(btw, pm me with your wife's book title)

Zag,
I am interested in knowing how your wife published a children's book. What steps did she take?  How long did it take? I need as much info as you feel comfortable sharing.  Thanks   :)

I was a regular on DTF, and bumped heads with TonyN and sntjohnny often, and even over the smallest thing I could find. I once goaded TonyN into an argument just for something to do, but don't tell him that.
I used to go by "nojc4me" but finally decided on a change of attitude from negative to a more positive one.
I was raised as a practicing Catholic, attended a private Catholic elementary school for a year and took CCD classes until I graduated from High School, served as an altar boy, and considered holy orders. Then I discovered the errors, lies, and myths of the New testament, and the evil that has been wrought by the Christian churches in the name of Jesus, and dumped Christ. I decided to start from scratch, and built up from the book of Genesis to the point where God gave the Torah at Sinai, and considered converting to Judaism until I found out I didn

What you say is nothing new RG.. I mean about the conflict between Christians and Jews.  When the Christian Camp first rose then rose the rub between Goy and Jews.  It has till this very day.

the fact remains, however, is that the first Christians were all Jews.  Then these stubborn Jews needed revelation to accept you and me as Goys as equals to God.

Like some others here, I have also been banned from other forums. In fact, I recently got bumped from a yahoo group that I had been a member of for about as long as I can remember. I used to post there often, even writing articles that were wildly popular with the list owner and the resident expert. Some of them had even been borrowed or quoted and modified extensively in the list owner's own web site. He even asked me to help get another web site of his up and running. And it is a group that teaches people how to refute Christian missionaries from a Jewish perspective! Yes, really!

That is really funny.

Just thought I'd pop in. I'm one of the people who was really big on sntjohnny's game site, and "translated" a few things to get it more in line with his "Fidelis" world.

I still pop in from time to time, but I have way too many things going on to be a regular on anything. Regardless, I will be here with my own brand of apologetics (you'll have to wait to see what I mean about that, but from what I can tell, this may be one of the few places where my ideas won't be greeted with a universal "huh?")

Greetings. You can call me Trent. I'm an anonymous user of anonymous age and anonymous gender who wishes to remain largely anonymous. Of myself personally, I will only state for the record that I am an atheist. I'm not here out of curiousity, nor out of any desire to heckle, nor even because I love a good debate. I guess I'm just here to kill time. I'll chime in whenever I feel I have something worth saying. We'll see just how often that is.

lol, I found this place while wasting time on facebook. Probably the only add I've ever clicked and done something with.

I'm agnostic, and enjoy discussions on religion. I'm a little turned off by the quote wars that erupt on message boards, so I might sit out most of these threads. However, I've enjoyed reading so far.

So um, hi :)
