Zeitgeist. Anyone (else) seen it?
« on: October 27, 2007, 09:27:07 AM »

A VERY provocative independent film - although technically it's more of an exercise in cross-pollinating agitprop with found art for the purpose of stimulating debate - that is guaranteed to cause MUCH controversy as word of mouth propels it forward from the trickling 'underground' waters towards the raging 'mainstream'. This devishly well-named feature length document (approx. 2hr running time) which is currently beginning a film-festival run can also be legally downloaded online or purchased on DVD for $5 + $2 shipping. It's well worth checking out regardless of one's religious or political affiliation. But be forwarned, it is designed to 'upset' dogmatic, entrenched (re: conservative) belief systems. Of course I would argue that this is most natural, as one understands that it is necessary to 'turn over' the [hardened] top soil in order to effectively plant seeds in the rich fertile soil that resides underneath.

"The heavens parted, God looked down and rained gifts of forgiveness onto my being - healing me on every level: psychically, physically, emotionally.
And I realized our true nature is spirit, not body; that we are eternal beings and God's love is unconditional and there's nothing we can ever do to change that. It is only our illusion that we are separate from God or that we are alone. In fact the reality is that we are one with God and He loves us."

Did see it.  Enjoyed it very much.  Admittedly, some of it was a tad frightening for me, but that just means I reacted the way I was expected to.  I enjoyed the first part especially, but was disappointed that he didn't go ahead and try and dispel the uniqueness of Christianity's salvific message.  I think if he had tried, he would've run up against a bit of difficulty since the Christian message of salvation is unlike any other message of salvation, therefore he wouldn't have been able to make all the correlations and parallels to other religions.

I watched some of it.  I remember the beggining was a load and other parts gave me the impression of being very conjectured.

I was tempted to see it but held off. A indy former co-worker of mine who is pretty anti-Christian loved it and wanted me to see it but I had a feeling it would tick me off. Perhaps I should check it out to see for myself.
