nudities in a catholic magazine!!!
« on: November 04, 2005, 10:37:44 PM »

It sounds like a joke to me but unfortunately it isn't, as a former catholic I am appalled   [surprised
I happened to read in an Italian forum that a famous Italian magazine called "famiglia cristiana" (Cristian Family) decided to allow a commercial page showing a woman's butt
Now I imagine this won't surprise you that much guys but I had read this magazine several times, I had never seen anything more restricted before, it was a must of faith and chastity for any catholic  :!:
now they decided to publish a woman's bottom , again it really seems absurd to me but(t ? ) what is even more absurd is the  answer the church has given to the several complaints :" please , let's not see something that is not there " ( they were idiomatically referring to the loss of their values and coherence ) , a friend of mine has , fairly enough , said a butt is a butt and it is there, it's on their magazine!
I believe they lost so much in credibility what do you guys think?

Yes the human body is beautiful and God created a great thing in Woman (My Wife) but, that does not mean my rights should be walked on...

It is funny if a Christian is left out thats ok, but a non-believe  then Seperation of Church and state are thrown around (even though that is not what it says in the 1st Amendment)

I agree with you, the human body is beautiful, very indeed, but not because something is beautiful we need to make a show of it on the contrary! I believe sometimes real beautiful things are the ones we hold so much in respect that we keep reserved. I am LDS but not because of my faith do I state nudities are repulsive, I never said that and I never will.
P.S
this is for the other guy who asked for the picture, no I don't have it and if I did I would not publicate it, that is strongly against my ideals.

Isn't it interesting how before so-called original sin, humans weren't ashamed of being naked, and yet it is usually the people who believe this story to be true that are most offended by nudity? Why is that? If it was a sin for Adam and Eve to gain the knowledge that caused them to be ashamed of their bodies, wouldn't it be virtuous to want to display the body and not be ashamed of it?

well...just like Valery I may not claim to hold any  church authority I can only give you my opinion as to why it is like that. Think about what you just wrote the key is in one of your verbs:"humans WEREN'T ashamed" , believing this story is one thing putting it into the present is another, once our projenitors ate the forbidden fruit they also made a choice of knowledge, we nowadays hold that knowledge and THAT knowledge is in conflict with eden innocence, aka that innocent status in now over.

yes, but wouldn't it be a good thing to attempt to gain a part of that innocence back?

I am not sure of the legality of having a butt on this webpage.

i think that's what man is trying to do by being modest in clothing, unfortunately it is impossible to get back to those times, totally I mean...
the moment the fruit is eaten, it is eaten, it's like killing a person and then repenting, you can try to confort the victim's family , you can try to work for making yourself a better person and make it so you will not murder again in the future but you may not bring THAT  person back to life, just like Adam and Eve could take the consequences of what they had done but it's not like they could brainwash themselves to regain their innocense and maybe even bring the fruit they had eaten out of their tummy and back on the tree
thing is, for as hard as it might seem, we are responsible for the choices we make, we may repent and be forgiven but that does not mean we are free to do whatever we please and, what the heck, we'll repent, consequences are inevitable

Funnily enough, my lack of God-belief is accompanied by a strong disapproval of unnecessary nudity or obscene content.

Combine that with my strong hatred of religious hypocrisy and you get...

...strong disapproval of unnecessary nudity in a religious publication that shouldn't have any nudity in the first place.

If said Catholic magazine did publish an ad with the picture of a woman's bum, I would be concerned of that magazine's validity as a Catholic magazine--not that I care about Catholicism itself, it's just that I get extremely ticked off when I see people claiming to be what they aren't. Though I'm agnostic, I could teach many a so-called "Christian" a thing or two about what the Gospel really means...

I'd say I understand Christians (Catholic, Protestant, whatever) quite a bit better than many other non-believers I know. Maybe that's because I voluntarily divide disbelief from incredulity, whereas said nameless individuals can't seem to keep "I don't know about that..." and "I think that's just stupid!" out of the same bedroom...

I disapprove of such things because they tend to erode our moral understanding of sexuality as connected with love. That is to say, when we get too absorbed in sexual perversion we lose touch of the other side of things, the side the comprises actual "relationships."

That said, I don't bother other people about their personal opinions on the matter. If another guy wants to spend his alone-time with a stack of Playboys and a list of porn sites, or happens to like movies with a lot of spicy sex scenes, it makes no difference to me...

In THIS case, however, we have something somewhat obscene appearing in a place it has no right to be, in the publication of a religion that declares lust to be a sin. That amounts to hypocrisy, and that is where I draw the line between "something to tolerate" and "something to criticize."
