Okay I watched it last night. It is on Fridays at 10 p.m. on NBC. It was very good. I think the main point of the show is despite all their many problems these are good people. My favorite scene - the daughter who was caught selling pot found an elderly friend of the family (who lives with them for some reason which I missed) smoking weed. She says she stole it from the daughter after the daughter was caught. She tried it because a nurse friend told her it might help with the pain caused by her diabetes. It does. The woman insists on paying the daughter for the pot, and the daughter says only if she lets her buy more for her. She tells her not to because it is too risky, but gives her the money anyway, so I doubt this issue is over.
Another storyline had the niece of one of the church bishops seduce the gay son in the backseat of the aunt's car. They slept together and now the son seems not a hundred percent sure that he's gay. The bishop aunt found the condom wrapper in the back seat of the car and showed it to Daniel, and told him to talk to his son. Daniel confronts his son and tells him to figure out what he is already and tell the girl if he's gay, and then tell him what he is because he'd like to know, too.
Overall, fascinating stuff. The show is like a grown-up version of Seventh Heaven. I watched for the wise-cracking Jesus, and got pulled in by the stories. I will definitely keep watching.
