OK ...
did anybody else get the Chuck Norris ad on the right side of the page there?

"Where does Chuck Norris write?"
...
"Anywhere he wants"

Hilarious.

I almost clicked on it.

Quite the impassioned speach there. I won't say I agree with the more spiritual proclamations, and I won't say I agree that without active Christianity, the West would decend into barbarism, and I do think the anti-smoking and anti-drunk-driving things are good things. But it's a fair point. There's a lot of anti-Christian stink going around. And if Richard Dawkins really wants the government to protect children from their parent's beliefs, I think I'm starting to hate him. What about atheism? Can we protect them from their atheist parents, too? If not, then the man can take his suggestion and shove it where the sun don't shine, as far as I'm concerned.

Good story, 8d8...or bone...or whatever your name is  [biggrin]. It's reminiscent of Alexander Solzhenitsyn's graduation speech at Harvard. That was in 1978.

and I do think the anti-smoking and anti-drunk-driving things are good things.

I don't think the author was trying to say the anti-drunk-driving campaing was bad. i think he used it as a way of showing how effectively a campaing similar to that can change people's minds. The laws were ineffective, he said, so MADD stepped up their campaign and now drunk driving is significanlty less of a problem than it once was. I think he was saying that the anti-smoking laws are a bad thing, however.

So tell me, why do you think anti-smoking laws are good?

I'm not familiar with Solzhenitysyn's  speech but I'll look it up...

This anti-Christian "campaign" is even broadening to include  Canadian Members of Parliament who jump ship to the other side;

so MADD stepped up their campaign and now drunk driving is significanlty less of a problem than it once was.

I cannot be convinced of this.  I know this is the normal claim, but lately the news I hears signigies otherwise.

I have to see what you base this claim on before I can agree on it... but on the other hand... like I said.. the news as of lately shows that this may not be true at all.  The midnight news actually report on more drunk driving than ever before.

In my city, many folks have come together and decided that D drivers will never change...at least until they, the D drivers decide to change...

Perhaps it is the mandate of the MADD thing here but his is now how it goes....

The DD'ers, whom are voluntary, will provide this service to DD'rs.  LOL.

We call DD'rs Designator Drivers and DD'rs Drunk Drivers....haha

DD'rs do it for free and often are are early workers... and you guessed it... they often..probably..come to work very tired.

I work with a girl who is a DD'r.  She was up till 2 am... making sure the DDr's were getting home safe... then she had to get to work at 6 am the same morning.. boy.. she was a mess.. very tired she was.

hmmmmm....
