I'm on vacation in southern France atm, but I'll be back to my usual mischief in a week.  Just popped in to say "Salut".

Fb... lol

What makes a forum, any forum, alive is those who live in it.  I think this forum is worth your dollor.. but wait.. it's free!!

A friend and I were talking to studious persons some time ago.  I and my friend disagree on some issues.  He is a "free willer" and I am more of "a will within a will" thinker.  This has to do with the idea of what the definition of God's control means.  The "studious persons" that I am referring too are John Calvin thinkers.  Of course now they will disagree with my friend and I.  They could, it seems easily disagree with my friend.. but they had very hard time with my questions.  Now it seems obvious that they would ignore us both.. and they did.  But I must admit that my dear friend gave them a run for their money too.

My advice for such a thread... keep with it... stay with it.. keep it alive.. don't run

I'm trying to real in a few friends of mine, but they aren't too interested in online debate or discussion on the metaphysical =/ They like to leave that sort of thing to coffee shops and Taco Bell (they close at like, 2AM!)

I was pulled into here from a facebook ad. I dno how people can participate in those threads as they go wildly off topic and there are WAY too many people participating. A lot of them just being trolls.

I guess that is your answer. Makes sense, though - dead god, dead forum...

You replied just in time to not receive the message:

I, however, did receive it. Hearing what I want to hear? Nope.

I'm with you, AH. I don't really care any more either - I think it's because anger at the folly of religion gives way to resignation after a while.

It must also mean that you are no longer convinced that religion is inherently or demonstrably as dangerous as you previously thought, or at least Christianity isn't.  Otherwise you'd be here banging it out.  ;)

Certain religions certainly are dangerous, just as certain non-religions are.  ;)

Actually, SJ, the resignation I referred to is the futility of "banging it out". My opinion of religion has not changed at all, nor has my opinion of those "non-religions" you refer to - all of which share the very worst characteristics of religions.

I don't think I believe you.  I think rather that you don't like getting schooled every sentence you write.  ;)

But let's assume you're being sincere for a moment (something you've never extended to me).  If you do think it is futile but you still think religion is outrageously dangerous then you must have in mind some other approach.  What are you doing now?  Pushing to have all those dangerous fundies thrown into prison?  ;)

"all of which share the very worst characteristics of religions"

I don't suppose you'll allow that religions have some good characteristics?  Or, if they do, do they cease to become 'religious' characteristics and now become non-religious characteristics?

Am I not right in pointing out that you entertain simple tautologies:  if it is something you don't like, it is de facto religious.  If it is something you do like, then its secular.  Right?  So the atheistic communists that slaughtered hundreds of millions not to long ago were not acting on their 'non-belief' at all, but rather were religious.  And if Christians ushered in democracy and the very secularism and church/state distinction you like, then that was actually atheism, right?

Or you could do as I do and not blame either religion or non-religion but instead blame Man.

No, it was more the complete inability to get a straight answer to a straight question  .

I am no longer wasting my time (this post aside).

That is exactly who I blame - who do you think I blame, God?

"No, it was more the complete inability to get a straight answer to a straight question Wink ."

I'm not one of those west coasters.  Every answer I give is straight.  :)

"I am no longer wasting my time (this post aside)."

Awesome.

So what would it take to persuade you that there is a God and he is as Christians describe him?

"That is exactly who I blame - who do you think I blame, God?"

Your blaming of Man seems to go just in one direction.   If a religious person does something bad that just goes to show how bad religion is.  If a non-religious person does something bad that just goes to show you how religious he was, after all.  :)

I speak fluent atheist.  I can't help it.   [howumakemefeel

..but only if you count a 500 word ego fueled, rambling soliloquy of bizarre ideas as a straight answer. And let's not forget your favorite tactic of not answering the question at all.

If Christians could agree on how to describe him that would be a start.

500 word?  I think you need to give me more credit.  I can easily write 1,000 words in a flash.   ;)

Wonderful.
